A telescope is a scientific optical instrument. Once you've looked through them, you want to see everything through your binoculars, they make everything closer and clearer.
Transporting a telescope has always been a difficult assignment because the instrument is cumbersome and setup is an involved process. A lot of binoculars are ruined when dropped accidentally. Boaters and those that enjoy the water will want the waterproof or fog proof models.
Apart from magnifying images, binoculars offer other functions also. Field-of-view is determined by magnification and the focal lengths of the objective and eyepiece lenses. A few compact binoculars come filled with nitrogen and are waterproof.
Magnification is not the best way of choosing a telescope, as a clear image is more important then simply magnification. From little twinkles to bigger twinkles in the sky, the effects of using binoculars makes a big difference.
