You'll need to choose the magnification power of your binoculars. I've been using my Nikon Monarch Binoculars for a few years now, and I am extremely happy with them.
Binoculars are just more comfortable to look through and hold steady because both hands are usually used. If it just for the kids to play, then go with a less expensive model that they will not break easily. All light transmitting surfaces are covered with multi-coating to increase brightness.
Cost is another factor to consider. They can be used while hiking, camping, boating and hunting. But still, a good pair of night-vision binoculars will cost at least a thousand dollars.
The objects may look bigger, but the images could be quite unclear. Binoculars are wonderful for any sporting events, or children's activities.
